Artist's Description

A caribbean conch shell transformed into an aztec ceremonial trumpet called an atecocoli in Nahuatl. Its haunting sound harked back to the primordial blast of the world produced in the underworld by Quetzalcatl heralding the creation of humankind. The atecocoli is also blown during the solstice to herald in the new cycle of light overpowering the dark energies.
