Description
A bank of fog along Howe Sound begins to vanish, from the heat of the morning sun revealing an old rusty dock crane and behold ...Mt. Sedgwick across the waters. A stunning view when all the elements of a good photograph are aligned, including the weather. As once seen for the better part of the 20th century from the site of the old copper mining town of Britannia Beach, British Columbia and along the beautiful drive on the Sea to Sky highway between Vancouver and Whistler. The antiquated crane was a historical landmark for many years at Britannia Beach, a small community in the Squamish-Lillooet District of about 300. First developed between 1900 and 1904 as the residential area for the staff of the Britannia Mining and Smelting Company.
The town is host to the Britannia Mine Museum, formerly known as the British Columbia Museum of Mining, on the grounds of the old Britannia Mines.
